How to Write Website Content That Works

By

The best-designed website in the world will fall flat with weak words. Content is what convinces people to trust you and take the next step. Here is how to write website content that actually works.

Lead with what your visitor wants

People arrive with a question or a need. Answer it quickly and clearly, in their words, not yours. Save the company history for later. The first lines of a page should speak to the reader, not about yourself.

Write the way you talk

Plain, warm language beats corporate jargon every time. Short sentences, simple words and a friendly tone are easier to read and feel more human. If you would not say it out loud to a customer, do not write it.

Make it scannable

Most people scan before they read. Use clear headings, short paragraphs and the occasional list so someone can find what they need at a glance and dive deeper if they want to.

End with a clear next step

Every page should make the next move obvious, whether that is calling, enquiring or reading on. Do not leave people wondering what to do, because a vague ending is one of the quiet reasons nobody fills in your contact form.

Great content and great design reinforce each other, which is the approach we take across the Defyn family. If your pages are not pulling their weight, we can help, or call 02 9834 4119.
