WooCommerce turns a WordPress site into a full online store, and it is wonderfully flexible. That flexibility means there are right and wrong ways to set it up. Here is how to get the foundations right for an Australian store.
Get products and categories right first
Plan your product structure before you start adding items. Clear categories and filters and consistent product information make the store easier to browse and far easier to manage as it grows.
Payments, shipping and tax
Set up secure Australian payment options, configure shipping zones and rates that match how you actually post orders, and get GST settings right from the start. These are the details that quietly cause headaches later if rushed.
Keep it fast
Stores have a lot going on, so performance matters even more than usual. Good hosting, optimised images and a lean set of plugins keep checkout quick, and quick checkouts are one of the simplest ways to reduce abandoned carts.
Test everything before launch
Place test orders, try every payment and shipping option, and check the whole flow on a phone. A broken checkout is the most expensive bug a store can have.
